Planner – Intermediate or Senior

Kāhu Environmental needs new planners to help us on our mission. We’re dedicated to creating a future where sustainability is the norm, the environment comes first and Māori partnerships are honoured. If making a real difference for the environment and future generations spins your wheels, we’d love to chat. Meet the team and check out some of our projects at www.kahuenvironmental.co.nz

What do we do?

We’re planners, ecologists, kaupapa taiao specialists and communicators. We work alongside councils, iwi, central government, NGOs and private clients. Our diversity is our strength. We work on a wide variety of cool stuff, such as freshwater management, iwi environmental plans, environmental improvement projects, plan changes and resource consents. Projects can last anywhere from an hour to a year. We’re in the business of providing effective and useful advice to our clients, so our knowledge and expertise is absolutely critical. Our reputation hinges on the quality of work that goes out the door, so everything we do must be thoughtful, accurate and professional, but above all else, it must be honest.

Who are we looking for?

Our planners are many things – smart, curious and self-motivated. They’re great communicators, adept problem solvers and they believe deeply in what they do. You’re likely to fit the same mould.

We’re looking for planners in the intermediate to senior range, so you’ll have a few years of experience and know your way around resource management legislation and policy. You can get involved in consent applications and plan changes without breaking a sweat, and you’re a whizz at giving technical advice to planners and non-planners alike. At the senior level, you’ll need to be comfortable with preparing evidence and reviewing other people’s work.

You’ll have a qualification in planning, policy, resource management or a related area. We have plenty of interesting work on, so we’re after someone who can get stuck in straight away.

You will also have the following core skills:
  • You enjoy working collaboratively with a range of people and skillsets.
  • You are self-motivated and can manage your own time.
  • You enjoy having several projects on the go at once.
  • You possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • You have a flexible mindset and you’re willing and able to turn your hand to new things.

What do we offer?

In return for everything you bring to us, we offer you some great advantages:
  • Flexible, full- or part-time hours, and the option to work from home or the office for the right person.
  • A focus on healthy work-life balance – tell us what suits you, it’ll probably work!
  • A genuine, supportive team who will always have your back.
  • Loads of variety. Do the work you enjoy without feeling stuck in a rut.

What’s it like to work with us?

We are a team of 17 smart, fun people who take real pride in what we do. You’ll find we all have a passion for people and the environment, which really shows in how supportive and dedicated we are to each other, and to being part of something positive.

We all use our networks to find new clients, but most of our work comes from existing relationships. Clients we’ve done great work for come back to us because they trust us – they like how we work and relate to our values. This means that we do jobs we enjoy, for people we like. We care deeply about doing the right thing, even when it’s hard.

Where are we?

Kāhu Environmental has offices in South Wairarapa and Taupō, and team members who work from home in other regions. We work on projects from Queenstown to the Far North. It would be great if you were able to work in one of our offices, but if that’s not possible we’re happy to discuss options.

If you’d like to know more, call David Ross on 021 289 0789 for a confidential chat. If you’re ready to apply, email your CV and a fantastic cover letter to the Practice Manager at info@kahuenviro.co.nz  Bonus points if you include or link to an example of your work! Applications close 5:00pm Wednesday 6th July.
